Mental health topic discussion with panelists
7:00pm-8:00pm
Fort Wayne
Cost: FREE
Anxiety and depression — A brief exploration of a broad topic will be the subject of a panel question/answer discussion sponsored by the St. Vincent de Paul Respect Life Committee on Wednesday, March 14, at 7 p.m. in the Msgr. John Kuzmich Life Center at St. Vincent de Paul Parish, 1502 E Wallen Rd. Panelists include Greg Essig, PhD, HSPP (Licensed Counseling Psychologist at Feathergill & Associates); Father James Bromwich (Chaplain at Parkview Regional Medical Center and Instructor of Medical Ethics/Human Dignity) and Paige Clingenpeel, LMHC (Licensed Mental Health Therapist for Parkview Health, assigned to Carroll High School).
If you haven’t experienced it yourself, chances are you know someone who has dealt with or is currently dealing with one of these two widespread mental health conditions. It seems they’re more prevalent now than ever, especially in teenagers and young adults. But they’re also on the rise in the elderly population. The reasons are no doubt many and diverse. Is it possible to identify the warning signs? As a family member or friend, how can you help? What interventions are recommended? What resources are available?

Hosted by the Community of Sant’Egidio, co-sponsored by the Catholic Peace Fellowship and Under Caesar’s Sword and the Office for Ecumenical and Interreligious Relations Diocese of Fort Wayne-South Bend
In many parts of the world Christians, even at the risk of their own lives, do not cease to proclaim the Gospel of Christ’s peace. This strong, nonviolent witness of our brothers and sisters helps us to understand the meaning of the Cross of Jesus, of His Passion and Resurrection. Continuing a tradition started in Rome, and encouraged by St. John Paul II, this memorial prayer remembers the faithful of all Christian traditions of the 20th & 21st Centuries who have been given the grace to offer their lives for the sake of the Gospel of Jesus Christ.
“We know that there is no growth without the Spirit: it is He who is Church, it is He who makes the Church grow, it is He who convokes the Church’s community. But the witness of Christians is necessary too. And when historical situations require a strong witness, there are martyrs, the greatest witnesses. And the Church grows thanks to the blood of the martyrs. This is the beauty of martyrdom. It begins with witness, day after day, and it can end like Jesus.” – Pope Francis

Tenebrae
9:00pm-10:00pm
Fort Wayne
Cost: FREE
“Tenebrae” — a musical meditation on the seven “last words” of Christ on the Cross — will be on Good Friday, March 30, at 9 p.m. at St. Vincent de Paul Church, 1502 E Wallen Rd. Tenebrae is the Latin word for “darkness.” The gradual extinguishing of all candles in the church symbolizes the temporary triumph of the prince of darkness over the Light of the World. The loud noise, or strepitus, at the conclusion of the service suggests the earthquake described in the Passion narratives. The single candle left burning, the Paschal candle, is the symbol and promise of Christ’s triumph over death and darkness.
