Sisters of Providence celebrate anniversaries of final vows

SAINT MARY-OF-THE-WOODS — Seven Sisters of Providence of Saint Mary-of-the-Woods, Indiana, with ties to the Diocese of Fort Wayne-South Bend, are celebrating jubilees this year.

60-year jubilarians

Sister Donna Butler is a native of Fort Wayne. Currently, she ministers as a social justice advocate. Formerly Sister Donna Rose, she entered the congregation on Jan. 6, 1958, from St. Jude Parish, Fort Wayne. She professed final vows on Aug. 15, 1965.

She graduated from Saint Mary-of-the-Woods College with a bachelor’s degree in education. She earned a master’s degree in education from Indiana University.

Sister Donna has ministered in Indiana, Michigan and Wisconsin.

Sister Linda Kaliker is a native of Fort Wayne. Currently, she ministers in prayer at Saint Mary-of-the-Woods. Formerly Sister Marie Theodore, she entered the congregation on Jan. 6, 1958, from St. Patrick Parish, Fort Wayne. She professed final vows on Aug. 15, 1965.

She graduated from Saint Mary-of-the-Woods College with a bachelor’s degree in education. She also earned a master’s degree in elementary education from Indiana University.

Her Diocese of Fort Wayne-South Bend ministries include Fort Wayne, residential superintendent, Riverview Care Center, 1987-89; consultant, Sears Telecatalog 1989-93; and in Huntington, adult literacy consultant, Idea Center, 1993-94. Sister Linda has also ministered in Illinois.

70-year jubilarians

Sister Eileen Dede is a native of Terre Haute. Currently, she ministers as a volunteer at Providence Spirituality & Conference Center, Saint Mary-of-the-Woods. Formerly Sister Anita Therese, she entered the congregation on Jan. 7, 1948, from St. Ann Parish, Terre Haute, and professed final vows on Aug. 15, 1955.

She graduated from Saint Mary-of-the-Woods College with a bachelor’s degree in education and earned a master’s degree in education from Indiana University.

Her Diocese of Fort Wayne-South Bend ministry was in student clinical pastoral education at St. Joseph Hospital from 1978-79. Sister Eileen has also ministered in Florida, California, Ohio, Illinois and Massachusetts.

Sister Terese Marie Havlik is a native of Chicago. Currently, she ministers in prayer at Saint Mary-of-the-Woods. She entered the congregation on Feb. 2, 1948, from St. Odilo Parish, Berwyn, Illinois, and professed final vows on Aug. 15, 1955.

She graduated from Saint Mary-of-the-Woods College with a bachelor’s degree in history. She also earned a master’s degree in guidance counseling from Northern Illinois University.

Her Diocese of Fort Wayne-South Bend ministry was as a teacher at St. John the Baptist School, Fort Wayne, from 1959-65. Sister Terese Marie has also ministered in Illinois and California.

Sister Joan Mary Schaefer is a native of Cicero, Illinois. Currently, she ministers in residential services at Saint Mary-of-the-Woods. She entered the congregation on July 22, 1948, from Mary, Queen of Heaven Parish, Cicero, and professed final vows on Jan. 23, 1956.

She graduated from Saint Mary-of-the-Woods College with a bachelor’s degree in education, and also received a master’s degree in education from Ball State University.

Her Diocese of Fort Wayne-South Bend ministry was as a teacher at St. John the Baptist School, Fort Wayne, from 1953-54. Sister Joan Mary has also ministered in Illinois, Massachusetts and Missouri.

Sister Rita Ann Wade is a native of Indianapolis. Currently, she ministers as the co-director of Miracle Place, Indianapolis. Formerly Sister Rose Annette, she entered the congregation on Jan. 7, 1948, from St. Joan of Arc Parish, Indianapolis. She professed final vows on Aug. 15, 1955.

She graduated from Saint Mary-of-the-Woods College with a bachelor’s degree in education. She also earned a master’s degree in elementary education from Indiana University.

Her Diocese of Fort Wayne-South Bend ministry was as a teacher and principal at Central Catholic High School in Fort Wayne, from 1966-69. Sister Rita Ann has also ministered in Illinois, Kentucky and Washington, D.C.

75-year jubilarian

Sister Adrian Marie Conrad is a native of Bicknell, Indiana. Currently, she ministers in residential services in Los Angeles.

Sister Adrian Marie entered the congregation on July 22, 1943, from St. Francis Xavier Parish, Vincennes. She professed final vows on Jan. 23, 1951.

She graduated from Saint Mary-of-the-Woods College with a bachelor’s degree in education, then earned a master’s degree in education from Indiana State University.

Her Diocese of Fort Wayne-South Bend ministry was as a teacher at St. John the Baptist School, Fort Wayne, from 1951-53. Sister Adrian Marie has also ministered in Illinois, Nevada and California.

85-year jubilarian

Sister Marceline Mattingly is a native of Henderson, Kentucky. Currently, she ministers as a volunteer at Providence Health Care, Saint Mary-of-the-Woods.

Sister Marceline entered the congregation on Feb. 10, 1933, from Cathedral Parish, Indianapolis. She professed final vows on Aug. 15, 1941.

She graduated from Saint Mary-of-the-Woods College with a bachelor’s degree in English and earned a master’s degree in biology from the University of Notre Dame.

Her Diocese of Fort Wayne-South Bend ministries in Fort Wayne included teaching at St. Jude School, 1941-42, and at Central Catholic High School, 1953-55 and 1956-60.

Sister Marceline also has ministered in Illinois and Washington, D.C.
