Fortnight for Freedom: SMS Campaign
As you’ve certainly heard by now, the Fortnight for Freedom begins today and will be a campaign of prayer, education, and public action in support of religious liberty. As you probably haven’t heard until now, the centerpiece of the public action component will be a campaign to build, using text messaging technology, a contact list of people interested in learning about and defending religious liberty.
This method will enable us to grow a large and diverse list very quickly, particularly drawing on groups attending the various Fortnight events that will soon occur all across the country. This also allows us to reach list members rapidly and powerfully whenever the need for public action arises in the future.
So beginning with a press release issued this morning, we will ask Catholics and others of good will to use their cell phones to text FREEDOM or LIBERTAD (for Spanish response) to 377377. They will receive an instant response requesting their email address and zip. From then on, even beyond the Fortnight, we will contact them in various ways about religious freedom—to pray, learn, and act, all in solidarity with the Bishops of the United States.
The U.S. bishops plan to communicate with supporters by SMS (short message service) about twice a month. Standard text message and data rates may apply. Reply STOP to opt-out. Reply HELP or contact [email protected] for help
