The Changing Face of Life-Limiting Prenatal Diagnoses, Part 2: Clinical, Pastoral, and Ethical Considerations
Saturday, October 25th, 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
Geddes Hall Auditorium, University of Notre Dame
This daylong conference is a continuation of the conference on prenatal diagnoses held at the University of Notre Dame in March 2025. National experts in neonatology, pediatric neurosurgery and other fields will discuss new research concerning primary brain anomalies and apnea and concerns regarding the absence of accurate prognostic information available to parents when a prenatal diagnosis is provided. Other topics include the impact of prenatal diagnosis on perinatal palliative care, guidance regarding Catholic ethics and implications for pro-life legislation. The program will also include a presentation on best practices in trauma-informed care and support for parents who receive a prenatal diagnosis. In addition, Notre Dame alumni Maureen and Brendan O’Connor will speak about their experience advocating for their son, Luke, who received a prenatal diagnosis. The conference is co-sponsored by the Office of Life, Marriage and Family Formation of the Diocese of Fort Wayne-South Bend, the de Nicola Center for Ethics and Culture and the Office of Life and Human Dignity of the McGrath Institute for Church Life at the University of Notre Dame, and the national Catholic ministry, Be Not Afraid. For more information and/or to register for the conference, please visit www.diocesefwsb.org/pnd-conference. The videos from Part 1 of the conference are also posted on this website. The registration deadline is October 20. For questions, please contact Lisa Everett at [email protected].
