Mass of Thanksgiving of Father Augustus Tolton Declaration as Venerable - POSTPONED
6:00pm-8:30pm
South Bend
Cost: Free
Due to the outbreak of COVID-19, this event has been postponed. A new date is TBD.
A Mass of Thanksgiving is being held at St. Augustine Catholic Church on Wednesday, April 1, at 6 p.m., at St. Augustine Church, 1501 W Washington, St., celebrating Pope Francis’ declaration of Father Augustus Tolton as “venerable.” He is the first African American priest to receive this designation and it puts Father Tolton a step closer to possible sainthood.
Bishop Joseph Perry, auxiliary bishop of Chicago and diocesan postulator for the Cause of Augustus Tolton will be the presider over the Mass.
Following Mass there will be refreshments and a presentation by Norbertine Father Gerard Jordan on the Six African American Candidates for Sainthood and Catholic Social Teaching.
This event is sponsored by The Tolton Society of St. Augustine Parish, St. Pius X Catholic Social Teaching Ministry and the Diocese of Fort Wayne-South Bend’s Black Catholic Advisory Board.
