Fort Wayne
Memorial Prayer Service, Tree Lighting and Blessing of Luminarias
Bishop Rhoades will lead us in prayer at the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception as we come together to celebrate the lives of our departed loved ones during this Advent season and prepare our hearts for Jesus’ coming as the Light of the World.
Featuring:
Choral music provided by Bishop Dwenger High School, Prayer and Scripture reading, Reflection by Bishop Kevin C. Rhoades, and Lighting of the Christmas Tree and Blessing of the Luminarias
The lighted tree will remain up inside the Cathedral during the Advent and holiday season for individuals to visit and pray for their loved ones.
Remember your loved one with a Luminaria:
Just as tradition has it that luminarias lit the way for Mary and Joseph in their search for lodging in Bethlehem, so too will luminarias light the walkway in the Cathedral Plaza during the service. Each luminaria bag with its flickering flameless candle will represent the light of a departed loved one and will include the name of your loved one printed on the bag.
For a donation of $10 or more, dedicate a luminaria in memory of your departed loved one to be lit and blessed by Bishop Rhoades at the prayer service. After the service, you may take your luminaria home with you or pick it up at one of the diocesan offices following the event.
All proceeds from the purchase of the luminarias will benefit Catholic Charities Fort Wayne-South Bend.
