St. Patrick's Day and Friday Abstinence
12:00am-12:00am
This year, Saint Patrick’s Day (March 17) falls on a Friday of Lent when all Catholics who have completed their 14th year of age are obligated to abstain from meat. Catholics in the Diocese of Fort Wayne-South Bend may substitute for abstinence from meat one of the following acts on March 17, 2023, the Memorial of Saint Patrick:
- Attendance at Holy Mass.
- The recitation of the rosary for the intention of peace in the world.
- One-half hour of prayer in the presence of the Blessed Sacrament.
This commutation is meant to preserve the penitential spirit of a Lenten Friday while also allowing for the celebration of a great saint whose feast should be celebrated in a spiritual manner and not merely in a secular context.

Dominican Sisters of Peace Come and See Vocations Event
4:00pm-1:00pm
Columbus
Dominican Sisters of Peace offer Come and See Retreat March 17-19
Columbus, OH – Two hundred years ago, when nine Kentucky women became the first Dominican Religious Sisters in the United States, it was a quick process. A local priest asked for volunteers on February 28, and on Easter Sunday of the same year, those nine women began their lives as Dominican Sisters.
Today’s women religious go through a much longer period of discernment and training before becoming Dominican Sisters. The first step is often a “Come and See” event, where young women to take a faith-informed look at the options in their lives to determine if religious life is a choice that should be explored.
The Dominican Sisters of Peace will welcome single Catholic women between the ages of 18 and 45 to a Come and See event March 17-19 at the Columbus, OH motherhouse.
The Dominican Sisters of Peace currently have eight women in “formation” to become religious Sisters, including scientists, communications professionals, medical professionals and even a former prison guard. All of these women share a call to serve God’s people as Dominican Sisters.
Women attending this “Come and See” retreat will meet these women and learn more about their journey and choice, as well as spend time with other Sisters, in prayer, study, meals, conversation and (of course) time for fun.
The March 17-19 retreat will be held at the Dominican Sisters of Peace Motherhouse at 2320 Airport Drive in Columbus, OH. The retreat is free, and lodging and meals will be provided. The Retreat will begin at 4 p.m. on Friday, March 17, and conclude after Mass and dinner at 1 p.m. on Sunday, March 19.
The Dominican Sisters of Peace Columbus Motherhouse is on the east side of the city, a short cab or ride share from Port Columbus Airport. Some travel assistance may be available.
To register, visit the Congregation’s website at oppeace.org, or contact Sister June Fitzgerald, Vocations Director, at (570) 336-3991, or [email protected].

Participants learn to understand the cycle—both its biomarkers and the underlying hormonal activity—as an indicator of their overall health. They are taught the phases of the cycle with an emphasis on the time of ovulation, the dominant hormonal activity in each phase, and what biomarker observations within each phase are necessary for a woman to be considered healthy. Attention is given to the understanding of the cycle as a holistic fertile process, which is fundamental to understanding cycle variations. The session includes analysis of various cycle types, including those of health concern. Exercises, Q&A, and case studies accompany this session. Presenters will be available at the end of the session to meet individually with each participant to review her personal chart. Refreshments will be served after the workshop.
