Theology on Tap: Winter Series
6:30pm-8:30pm
Cost: Free to attend (dinner and drinks for purchase at discounted rate thanks to event sponsors)
The Theology on Tap series, hosted this winter at USF Historic Woman’s Club: 402 W Wayne St., will bring young people from across Fort Wayne together as they dive deeply into the themes centered on the Eucharist and a call to action. The series planned by a team of local young adults, entitled “Go Forth,” will offer a weekly talk by a local follower of faith and the opportunity to enjoy food, drink and fellowship. Individuals of any faith are encouraged to attend. Parking can be found at 420 West Berry Street near the USF Performing Arts Center, a block away from the entrance to the USF Historic Women’s Club.
There will be one talk each Tuesday in February at the USF Historic Woman’s Club and a closing Mass celebration on March 1st in the USF Main Campus Chapel followed by a Mardi Gras party in Brookside Mansion. Food and bar service will be offered starting at 6:30 PM, and each talk will begin shortly after 7 p.m. The event is sponsored by the Knights of Columbus, USF Office of Advancement, USF Campus Ministry, and the Diocese of Fort Wayne-South Bend. Dinner and bar service will be available at a discounted rate thanks to their support.
Thanks Be to God: February 1st will kick-off the series with a focus on thanksgiving. Participants will be invited to consider what it means to live a life of gratitude. Giving thanks is an action, not a feeling. Being a grateful person means taking action to express thanks to God, even if our feelings tell us otherwise. This talk will explore how thanksgiving is tied in with the Eucharist. Fr. José Arroyo, pastor of St. Paul of the Cross in Columbia City will offer the series first talk.
Real Presence: February 8th will dive into the connection between the Eucharist and human anthropology. How can we be really present to each other in relationships? Participants will be invited to consider how Christ calls them into a relationship with him and with each other. This talk will be given by Bishop Kevin C. Rhoades, 9th Bishop of the Diocese of Fort Wayne-South Bend.
Go Forth in Vocation: February 15th will focus on the ways that Christians are called “go forth” to live the virtue of love in their vocations. Vocation means “to call.” What role does the Eucharist play in discernment and life calling? This talk will be given by Jessica Hayes, OV, who serves as Pastoral Associate for Liturgy at St. Vincent De Paul parish and Advisor for Vocations to the Consecrated Life for the diocese of Fort Wayne-South Bend.
Go Forth in Service: February 22nd will focus on the ways that the Lord calls all to serve one another as expressed in Catholic Social Doctrine. How does participation in the Eucharist call us into a relationship to serve one another? This talk will also share practical opportunities for living out Catholic Social Doctrine centered around Christ. This talk will be given by Sr. Jacinta Krecek, OSF, director of Campus Ministry at the University of Saint Francis.
Closing Mass & Mardi Gras Party: On March 1st, the winter Theology on Tap series will culminate with celebration of the Holy Mass in the USF Chapel at 6:30pm. Be sure to stay for the after Mardi Gras party with food, drink, and music in Brookside Mansion!
