Divine Mercy Sunday Plenary Indulgence
12:00am-12:00am
Albion
Divine Mercy Sunday is celebrated annually on the first Sunday after Easter. A Plenary Indulgence removes all temporal punishment due to forgiven sin (“Temporal punishment” is the “making up” for sin to which we are obliged after we are forgiven). A Plenary Indulgence can be applied to one’s self or to anyone who is deceased. A Plenary Indulgence can be gained once per day.
Three normal conditions for gaining any plenary indulgence:
- Sacramental Confession within 20 days of Divine Mercy Sunday, April 11, 2021
- Eucharistic Communion
- Prayers for the Pope’s Intentions
PLUS
One specific work required on Divine Mercy Sunday
- In any church or chapel, in a spirit that is completely detached from the affection for a sin, even a venial sin, take part in the prayers and devotions held in honor of Divine Mercy.
OR
- In the presence of the Blessed Sacrament exposed or reserved in the tabernacle, in a spirit that is completely detached from the affection for a sin, even a venial sin, recite the Our Father and the Creed, adding a devout prayer to the merciful Lord Jesus (e.g. “Merciful Jesus, I trust in you!”).
Jesus promised St. Faustina that “The soul that will go to Confession and receive Holy Communion shall obtain complete forgiveness of sins and punishment” (699). This Divine Mercy Sunday, April 11, take advantage of the Divine Mercy of the Father by participating in the Divine Mercy Sunday Plenary Indulgence. A Plenary Indulgence removes all temporal punishment due to forgiven sin and can be applied to one’s self or to anyone who is deceased. Strengthen your marriage from the comfort of your own home with The Marriage Course Online! Based on a beautiful, brand-new film series featuring “regular” couples and relationship experts from around the world, this free 8-week program will take place online over Zoom on Tuesday evenings from 8:00 to 10:00 PM from April 13 through June 1. There is no group discussion, but rather, time built right into each session for you and your spouse to discuss the topic in the privacy of your own home using prompts from The Marriage Course journal. Here are the topics covered: Strengthening Connection, The Art of Communication, Resolving Conflict, The Power of Forgiveness, The Impact of Family, Good Sex, and Love in Action. The program is hosted by Deacon Fred and Lisa Everett and will conclude with a Q & A panel discussion session with other Catholic couples.
